We also recommend that you further study our expert’s article, which describes the most popular ointments for hemorrhoids in as detailed and informative a manner as possible.

How effective are creams for hemorrhoids, what is their medicinal composition and therapeutic effect, a proctologist will tell you in a detailed review of the drugs.

Pharmacological properties

Aurobin was developed as a means of complex therapy for inflammatory processes in the anal area. Suitable for relieving inflammation caused by varicose veins of the intestines. The components of the drug improve venous tone and reduce the permeability of vessel walls.

Lidocaine relieves pain in patients.

The main active ingredient, prednisolone capronate, is a non-halogenated glucocorticosteroid. The substance has antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties.

The third active substance is dexpanthenol. It is produced on the basis of B vitamins. Dexpanthenol triggers the regeneration of the skin and normalizes metabolism in skin cells. It is dexpanthenol that reduces the negative effect of corticosteroids on the skin.

Triclosan disinfects the affected area, eliminating colonies of bacteria and fungi. Oil and liquid paraffins facilitate easy application and improve the absorption of the drug into the venous walls and skin in the affected area.

Indications for use

The ointment should be used in the presence of the following symptomatic manifestations:

  • itching and burning in the anal area;
  • localization of inflammatory foci in the perianal area;
  • dermatitis of the perianal area;
  • cracks in the anal ring;
  • prolapse of hemorrhoidal balls in the initial stages;
  • formation of eczema in the perianal area;
  • anal fistulas.

Aurobin is indicated as a means of complex therapy. For effective treatment, you need to combine the use of the drug with other pharmacological agents, while not forgetting about diet and therapeutic exercises.

Use during pregnancy

The drug should not be taken in the first trimester of pregnancy. However, some reviews of Aurobin mention cases of treatment with the drug in the 2nd and 3rd trimester, having previously compared the expected benefits and possible risks.

Do not forget that corticosteroids and lidocaine are also excreted from the body through breast milk, which can affect the function of the baby’s adrenal cortex and cause disruption of normal physical development. Consequently, both reviews of Aurobin and doctors’ opinions on the use of the drug during lactation have a negative connotation.

Application of Aurobin ointment

The product for external use is intended for use by adults and elderly patients. Use in children is permitted in small doses. It is forbidden to lubricate the affected areas in children under one year of age.

Standard dosage

Regardless of age, approximately a pea-sized amount of cream is applied to the affected area. In the severe stage of the disease (when prolapse of hemorrhoidal balls is observed), a small amount of Aurobin ointment is injected directly into the rectum. If Aurobin is used to treat a child, then it is necessary to minimize the area where the cream is applied.

It is recommended to use the drug no more than 3-4 times a day. The maximum duration of the therapeutic course is 7 days. After a week of use, you need to take a break for about ten days. If there is a weakening of symptomatic manifestations, then the frequency of use of Aurobin can be reduced to one or two times a day.

Overdose occurs only in the case of systematically excessive administration of the drug into the rectum. The most common symptom is bradycardia (a type of heart rhythm disorder). In this case, you need to stop therapy or gradually reduce the dosage.

Side effects from an overdose of glucocorticosteroids are extremely rare.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

The use of the cream in the first trimester of pregnancy is prohibited, since there is no objective data on the effect of the medicine on the fetus. In the second and third trimesters, the application of ointment is permitted after prior consultation with a doctor.

The corticosteroids included in the drug are absorbed into breast milk. Therefore, the mother should refuse either to use the described remedy or breastfeeding for the period of treatment.

Special instructions for use

Long-term use in children is not allowed, since the active substances of the drug can disrupt the functional state of the adrenal glands. To treat a child, the drug should be used in the lowest possible dosage, and the frequency of use should not exceed twice a day. The maximum duration of a course of Aurobin when treating children is five days.

Before applying the ointment, the treated area should be thoroughly washed, since the perianal area is a favorable place for bacterial/fungal infection to occur. If the affected area is affected by a secondary infection, then therapy should be abandoned.

Application to large surfaces of the skin is not recommended. If the ointment is applied to a large area, then over time the skin begins to atrophy: damage appears on it, it loses its natural healthy color.

It is necessary to thoroughly rinse the eye area if the drug gets there.

special instructions

Long-term therapy should be avoided whenever possible, especially in children, due to possible suppression of adrenal function. The drug can be used in children with caution, in the minimum dose required to achieve a therapeutic effect. The duration of therapy in children should not exceed 5 days.

Avoid accidental contact of the drug with the eyes or periorbital area. In case of contact, rinse with water.

The development or spread of a secondary infection requires discontinuation of the drug and the appointment of antimicrobial or antifungal therapy. Wet conditions encourage the development of bacterial infections, so the skin should be cleansed before each application of the ointment.

Application to a large area or use for a long time may lead to systemic absorption of the active components. With prolonged use of the drug in one area, skin atrophy may develop, especially in young people.

Effect of the drug on the ability to drive a car and operate machinery:

There is no data on the effect of Aurobin on the ability to drive vehicles or work in conditions of increased attention.

Contraindications and side effects

The use of Aurobin may negatively affect the condition of the skin. The developers of the pharmacological product identify the following side effects from the use of the cream:

  • hypersensitivity of the skin;
  • impaired blood clotting and, as a result, prolonged healing of wounds and abrasions;
  • dry skin and itching;
  • skin tendency to irritation;
  • acne;
  • thinning of the skin;
  • allergic dermatitis;
  • the appearance of diaper rash.

Instructions for use of Aurobin indicate a number of general contraindications for use, namely:

  • patient age up to 1 year;
  • intolerance to individual components;
  • the course of other diseases, the therapy of which is associated with the use of lidocaine;
  • bacterial/fungal skin infections.

The instructions specifically indicate that it is unacceptable to use the drug to treat the eyes and the area around them.

There is also a separate group of contraindications associated with the action of corticosteroids:

  • increased intracranial pressure;
  • increased blood sugar concentration;
  • hypercortisolism syndrome, characterized by impaired metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates (externally, the disease manifests itself as obesity and acne on the skin; women may experience excessive hair growth throughout the body, including the face);
  • increased blood pressure;
  • decreased potassium levels in the body;
  • glucosuria: the presence of glucose in the urine (with normal adsorption, glucose does not penetrate into the urine).

Despite the extensive list of side effects, reviews of the use of Aurobin hemorrhoid ointment assure that use does not affect the safe operation of vehicles, lifting machines and other mechanisms.

Side effects of Aurobin

If you follow the rules for using the drug, side effects are extremely rare. However, local application of Aurobin ointment can lead to local skin lesions, which is manifested by a burning sensation, delayed wound healing, itching, thinning of the skin, dryness, irritation, hypersensitivity, folliculitis, hirsutism, various rashes, the formation of atrophic stripes, diaper rash, atrophy skin, hypopigmentation, allergic contact dermatitis.

Depending on the volume of lidocaine and corticosteroids absorbed by the skin, various disorders may occur:

  • Central nervous system: dizziness, insomnia, increased intraocular cranial pressure with swelling of the papilla, headache, mental disorders, convulsions;
  • Metabolism and endocrine system: suppression of adrenal function, especially with prolonged use on a large surface. This phenomenon occurs in children, and also due to the use of an occlusive dressing;
  • Musculoskeletal: Corticosteroids may contribute to childhood growth retardation and osteoporosis. Aseptic necrosis and myopathy may also develop;
  • Gastrointestinal tract: pancreatitis, peptic ulcer of the stomach with possible bleeding, gastric perforation, esophagitis, gastric bleeding;
  • Cardiovascular system: slowing of conduction in the heart muscle, moderate bradycardia, peripheral vasodilation;
  • Exchange of electrolytes and water: loss of potassium, sodium and water retention in the body, heart failure, hypokalemic alkalosis, hypertension;
  • Visual organs: increased intraocular pressure, exophthalmos, posterior subcapsular cataract, corneal ulcer, glaucoma. According to reviews of Aurobin, the likelihood of developing cataracts in children is higher than in adults.
