Instructions

For pathologies of the digestive system, patients often take De-Nol. Since this drug is expensive, many patients are looking for a replacement, choosing, for example, Novobismol.

For pathologies of the digestive system, patients often take De-Nol or the cheaper Novobismol.

Pharmacology of the drug

What are Novobismol tablets? Instructions for use indicate that this is an antiulcer drug with bactericidal activity against Helicobacter pylori. It has an astringent and anti-inflammatory effect.

In the acidic environment of the stomach, the medication forms insoluble bismuth citrate and oxychloride, as well as chelate compounds in the form of a protective film on the surface of erosions and ulcers.

By increasing the formation of mucus, the synthesis of prostaglandin E and the secretion of bicarbonate, the drug in question activates cytoprotective mechanisms, increases the resistance of the gastrointestinal mucosa to the effects of hydrochloric acid, pepsin, enzymes and bile acids. It also accumulates epidermal growth factor in the defect area and reduces the activity of pepsinogen and pepsin.

How to take Novobismol?

The use of Novobismol should be monitored by the attending physician; only he can prescribe an individual dose for each patient.

But most often Novobismol is taken in the following variations:

  • Children from 4 to 8 years old are prescribed 8 mg per kilogram of the child’s weight. This dose is divided into two doses and drunk half an hour before meals;
  • Children from 8 to 12 years old are usually prescribed 1 tablet of Novobismol twice a day, also before meals;
  • People over 12 years of age are prescribed one tablet three times a day before meals, and another one before bed. Another option allows you to take Novobismol two tablets in the morning and evening before meals.

Novobismol should not be taken with milk, yogurt, juice and other antacid-containing products, as they reduce the amount of action of the drug and reduce its activity in the body. Therefore, it is recommended to take the drug with clean, non-carbonated water.

It is recommended to use Novobismol for one or two months. Further increase in the course may contribute to the development of overdose.
