Regidron for children instructions for use and composition

What is Regidron

To use this medicine correctly, you need to know what Regidron is and what it helps with.

This is a white powder. Without smell. Quickly dissolves in water. Used to prepare a solution for oral use. Its composition is very simple: sodium chloride and citrate, potassium chloride, glucose. These are substances that are lost by the body during poisoning along with vomit and loose stools. Such symptoms accompany almost any poisoning.

The loss of fluid and electrolytes leads to dehydration of the body, a shift in blood pH to the acidic side and disruption of the functioning of the most important organs and systems. Timely intake of a balanced solution of Regidron, which contains the necessary microelements and sugar, allows you to compensate for the loss and prevent the serious consequences of poisoning.

How to properly prepare and use Regidron

First, let's figure out how to breed Regidron. The cooking technology is very simple. A single dose of powder is contained in a separate sachet. In order to prepare a solution of the required concentration, you will need one liter of water, preferably boiled. The temperature should be room temperature or close to body temperature.

The resulting solution is good for 24 hours. Keep refrigerated.

Use of Regidron for poisoning

To get the maximum positive effect from treatment, you need to know how to take Regidron in case of poisoning.

During treatment you need to follow some rules.

  1. Do not add anything to the solution to improve the taste.
  2. Drink in small sips, but often, as a large amount of liquid taken at one time can cause another attack of vomiting.
  3. Be sure to stir the solution before each use.
  4. Consume regardless of meals.

There are certain recommendations on how to drink Regidron for adults.

During the first hour, the required amount of solution is calculated so that 10 ml of liquid comes out per kilogram of weight. For example, a person weighing about 70 kg needs to drink 700 ml of solution. As the condition improves, the dose can be reduced to 5 ml per 1 kg of weight. If attacks of vomiting resume, the amount of injected solution is increased to the original volume.

This treatment is not contraindicated for pregnant women. The medicine does not have a negative impact on both the health of the mother and the well-being of the unborn baby. Side effects with the right approach are unlikely.

special instructions

Before resorting to therapy, you need to carefully study the instructions. Attention is paid to factors that enhance the positive effect and help the drug to be absorbed:

  1. In case of severe dehydration, use in combination with intravenous saline preparations is indicated.
  2. It is prohibited to use an excessive amount unless there is laboratory confirmation of the need to dose in larger quantities.
  3. The introduction of sugar into the composition is harmful.
  4. If you have diabetes or kidney failure, you need to periodically do blood tests to determine salt levels and pH.
  5. If the urine acquires a red tint, weakness appears, a temperature above 39° is noted, epigastric pain is present and diarrhea lasts longer than 5 days, consult a doctor, and stop using Regidron on your own.

According to the instructions, the medicine does not provoke changes in the functionality of the structure of the central nervous system, therefore use while driving is allowed.

How to take Regidron for children

In childhood, poisoning can be very severe. Diarrhea and repeated vomiting lead to severe dehydration, which can occur quite quickly. Therefore, Regidron should always be present in your home medicine cabinet. While taking the drug, you must carefully monitor the child's condition. If there is the slightest deterioration, you should urgently call a doctor.

Before starting treatment, you need to familiarize yourself with how to take Regidron for children. Rehydration must be done very carefully. You can give the solution from a teaspoon or pipette every 5 minutes. Older children can drink in small sips.

The dose for children is calculated slightly differently than for adults. Per 1 kg of body weight, 25 to 60 ml of ready-made Regidron solution is required, depending on the severity of the condition. This amount must be taken within 10 hours. If the condition improves, then further treatment can be continued with an amount of solution at the rate of 10 ml per kilogram of the baby’s weight.

If a child is vomiting, Regidron should be given 10 minutes after the attack. You can freeze the solution in small portions and place a small ice cube on your tongue after vomiting, which reduces the urge to vomit. As it melts, the water is gradually absorbed into the mouth. This method is applicable only to children who are already able to eat solid food.

Treatment is continued until the loss of fluid due to diarrhea and vomiting stops. Sometimes this takes 3–4 days.

The danger of dehydration in children

One of the main causes of vomiting and diarrhea in children is the development of gastrointestinal tract infections. If they continue for more than a day, you should immediately seek the help of a specialist.

These processes are extremely dangerous for the health and even the life of the child. This is due to the fact that frequent vomiting and liquid mortar cause the body to lose a lot of fluid, as well as mineral salts.

As a result, the water-mineral balance in the body is disrupted. The risk of dehydration increases in young children. Their body is still very weak and sensitive to the loss of water and mineral salts.

It is extremely important for parents not to waste precious time. To do this, you need to carefully monitor the sick child and call an ambulance at the slightest sign of dehydration.

Some of the first signs of dehydration include:

  • Drowsiness
  • Lethargy
  • Constant thirst
  • Dryness and bright color of the mouth
  • Coated tongue
  • Yellowish skin
  • Cold hands and feet
  • The fontanel sinks
  • Dry skin
  • Rare urination

Remember, if one or more of the above symptoms appear, you should consult a doctor. Before the doctor arrives, we advise you to use children's Regidron.

What are the dangers of an overdose of Regidron?

The recommended doses of the drug should be observed, since an excess of trace elements included in its composition can lead to serious consequences, such as hypernatremia - excess sodium in the blood plasma with insufficient water. In this case, the following symptoms will appear:

  • drowsiness

    change in consciousness: confusion, drowsiness, possible coma;

  • disruption of the nervous system in the form of increased neuromuscular excitability and seizures;
  • muscle weakness and paralysis;
  • possible respiratory arrest;
  • Metabolic alkalosis - a shift in pH to the alkaline side - leads to impaired ventilation of the lungs and the appearance of tetanic convulsions, when muscles contract throughout the body.

If signs of overdose appear, you should stop treatment and consult a doctor immediately!

Description of the drug

Rehydron is a powder whose main property is to restore water and electrolyte balance in the body. Violation occurs for the following reasons:

  • accumulation of water in the body and problems with its elimination. Excessive fluid accumulates in the space between the cells.
  • If there is a serious lack of fluid in the body, the blood begins to thicken and becomes viscous.

Violation of water and electrolyte balance can lead to dire consequences, including death.

Regidron is effective for persistent vomiting and diarrhea. This drug contains potassium chloride, sodium chloride, dextrose and sodium citrate. The product helps restore glucose levels in the body. Sometimes Regidron is used in bodybuilding.

Age limit

In the past, experts prescribed the drug Regidron to both newborn babies and pregnant women, because it was considered completely safe, without side effects. However, it has been proven that this medicine contains a very high amount of sodium, so children should use it with great caution. Manufacturers allow the drug to be given to infants, but small children should be treated with Regidron in case of emergency.

Composition and release form

The drug is not available in tablets. It is produced exclusively in powder form. The crystalline granules are odorless and white in color. The solution, already prepared for use, is also odorless, transparent, and tastes sweet. The release form can be in 2 versions: 4 or 20 sachets of powder, packed in a cardboard box. Regidron must be diluted before use. The composition of the drug contains the following substances:

  • Sodium chloride - 3.5 g.
  • Sodium citrate - 2.9 g
  • Dextrose - 10 gr.
  • Potassium chloride - 2.5 g.

Indications for use

Restoring water and electrolyte balance is the main task of Regidron. The instructions will tell you what the medicine is used for. The abstract names another important indication for use - intestinal disorders that lead to diarrhea. If this condition is combined with frequent vomiting, then dehydration will occur much earlier. The loss of even a seemingly insignificant part of the fluid can pose a serious danger to the child’s body, so measures must be taken as soon as alarming symptoms are detected.

Cases in which it is recommended to use the medicine:

  • Intestinal infection.
  • Severe overheating, accompanied by heavy sweating.
  • Frequent and prolonged vomiting, which was provoked by poisoning.
  • Irritable bowel syndrome, as well as dysbiosis.
  • Diarrhea caused by any reason.
  • Very serious physical activity, which results in profuse sweating.
  • Heat.

Contraindications

This remedy has serious contraindications that make its use impossible. Rehydron should not be given to people who are unconscious. The drug is strictly contraindicated for people suffering from diabetes, as it contains dextrose, which can cause sharp spikes in insulin in the blood. Regidron is also not recommended for use:

  • Serious impairment of kidney function.
  • Intestinal obstruction.
  • Hypersensitivity to any components of the medicine, or allergic reactions to them.

Interaction with other drugs

There have been no official studies or experiments on the interaction of Regidron with other medications, so there is no official data on how such mixing may affect the body. Doctors do not advise experimenting with this and warn against such use.

How to make Regidron at home

There are situations when treatment is required immediately, but the necessary remedy is not at hand. There are ways to make a solution similar to Regidron at home.

To prepare the solution, you need a liter of water, preferably boiled. Add 3-3.5 grams of regular salt, 2-2.5 grams of baking soda and 20-30 grams of sugar. Mix all this thoroughly and use it as a pharmaceutical drug.

There is a simpler option where you don’t need to measure everything in grams. It is necessary to add a quarter teaspoon of salt and soda to 500 ml of water. Then add 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar.

The disadvantage of the first two recipes is the lack of potassium in the solution, as in the original preparation. If you have potassium chloride in the house, you can prepare a product that is even closer to Regidron. To do this, you will need half a teaspoon each of ordinary salt, soda and potassium chloride. This mixture is added to a liter of water. Add 4 tablespoons of sugar there. Stir and take.

Indications for use

Prescribed in the following cases:

  • Oral rehydration treatment for acute diarrhea with moderate (6-10% weight loss) or mild (3-5% weight loss) dehydration.
  • Normalization of water-electrolyte balance, correction of acidosis in case of heat injuries caused by disturbances of water-electrolyte metabolism, with diarrhea in the acute stage (including cholera).
  • Prevention of physical and thermal stress that causes intense sweating.

Regidron's analogs

If for some reason the required medicine is not available in the pharmacy, you are not satisfied with the price, there is no information on how to replace Regidron at home, or there are no necessary ingredients, then you can use other medicines.

  1. Hydrovit forte is much cheaper, but its content of active ingredients is much lower. One sachet holds 200 ml of water. An adult needs to drink a solution per day at the rate of 20 to 60 ml per kilogram of weight.
  2. Trihydron - has a similar composition. The content of salts and glucose is higher than that contained in Hydrovit forte. The bag is designed for 500 ml of water.
  3. Citraglucosolan is available in three versions. Depending on the weight of the bags, they contain more or less salts and sugar. There are three dosages. You can choose the most suitable option for yourself or your child.
  4. Reosolan is also available in three dosages. Sachets of different weights are designed for dilution in 100, 500 or 1000 ml of boiled water.

Release form

It comes to the pharmacy in the form of a powder, packaged in convenient bags made of aluminum foil. Each contains 18.9 g of medication. There are 4 or 20 pieces in 1 cardboard package. Be sure to include instructions with a detailed description of the composition and action. Rehydron is odorless and white in color. After dilution, a clear liquid with a pronounced salty and sweet taste is obtained. Among the varieties, Regidron Optim has a lemon aroma and yellow coloring is allowed.

Manufacturer: Orion Corporation, Finland.

Use of Regidron for alcohol intoxication

Regidron can be very useful for alcohol intoxication. Taking alcoholic beverages in excessively large quantities leads to the formation of toxic products of its metabolism - aldehydes. As a result, blood pressure decreases, which is accompanied by tachycardia. The nervous system and digestive organs suffer. This, in turn, may be accompanied by vomiting, leading to dehydration and loss of electrolytes. In addition, some drinks are diuretic.

Drinking plenty of fluid helps remove toxins from the body and increase blood pressure. The potassium and sodium contained in the Regidron solution replenish lost microelements, improving the functioning of the nervous system and heart. Glucose is a source of energy for the brain. This carbohydrate helps the liver cope with harmful substances. As a result, your health improves significantly.

Thus, a drug with a simple composition can be very effective in various situations. The composition of Regidron is easy to repeat if necessary. But, like any medicine, it must be used carefully and wisely to avoid unnecessary consequences.
