pharmachologic effect

Natamycin is an antifungal antibiotic (antimycotic). It has a pronounced antimicrobial and antiseptic effect. Preparations based on natamycin have a wide spectrum of antifungal action. First of all, Pimafucin is active against yeast fungi, including Candida, which makes this remedy very popular in the treatment of thrush and skin candidiasis.

The drug Pimafucin exhibits a fungicidal effect against pathogenic fungi. Treatment with Pimafucin is highly effective and safe.

During the use of the drug, not a single case of development of resistance of pathogenic microflora to the action of natamycin was recorded. The product is not addictive and does not lose effectiveness when used repeatedly in the event of a recurrence of the fungal infection.

The drug binds sterols in the cells of pathogenic and opportunistic fungi. This leads to disruption of further reproduction of fungal cells, death of adult individuals and a decrease in the size of the colony. The drug disrupts the integrity of fungal cells, causing their slow death.

Ointments and suppositories additionally contain alcohols, which provide the antiseptic effect of the drug. This prevents the spread of fungal spores to healthy skin and protects against secondary infection of the epidermis weakened by mycosis.

The drug acts locally. Pimafucin tablets have an enteric coating, so absorption of the drug occurs in the intestines, but not in the stomach. This determines the overall safety of the drug and makes Pimafucin tablets effective in the treatment of thrush in women.

Indications for use

Indications for the use of Pimafucin are any lesions of the skin and mucous membranes caused by yeast fungi of the genus Candida. The use of Pimafucin cream is indicated for the following disorders:

  • candidiasis of smooth skin;
  • candidiasis of the folds;
  • damage to the groin areas by yeast fungi;
  • thrush of the penis in men.

Pimafucin for thrush can be used by both women and men. Pimafucin for men is used in the form of an ointment; for severe forms of the disease, tablets are used. Pimafucin for women is a vaginal suppository.

Tablets of the drug are used as part of complex therapy for severe thrush of the genital organs, intestines, and for recurrent or generalized skin candidiasis.

The ointment is intended for the treatment of skin or genital organs in men. It is not suitable for treating thrush in women. The drug shows low effectiveness against dermatophytes and molds, therefore it is used only to combat various candidiasis.

The drug is effective against Candida fungus, which causes various candidiasis

Pharmacological characteristics

Antifungal polyene antibiotic of the macrolide group, which has a wide spectrum of action. The drug is active against yeast (Torulopsis, Rhoduturola), yeast-like fungi (Candida albicans), dermatomycetes (Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epidermophyton), other pathogenic fungi (Aspergillus, Penicillium), as well as Trichomonas.

Has a fungicidal effect. Pimafucin binds sterols of cell membranes, disrupting their integrity and functions, which leads to the death of microorganisms. Dermatophytes are less sensitive to natamycin, but resistance to natamycin does not occur in clinical practice. Not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, skin and mucous membranes.
