Donormil tablets
According to medical statistics, every fifth person complains of problems falling asleep. A person who does not get enough sleep experiences loss of ability to work, lethargy and weakness throughout the day.
To normalize sleep and reduce the time it takes to fall asleep , special medications are prescribed. Their list is quite extensive, and many of them can be bought at the pharmacy without a prescription.
One of them is Donormil. It is considered one of the most effective drugs. In addition, to obtain the desired effect, a minimum dosage and short-term use of Donormil is sufficient.
Donormil shortens the period of the sleep phase and increases the duration of sleep itself. Donormil has been known on the pharmaceutical market since 1948. Initially, Donormil was developed as a drug that eliminates allergies.
During clinical trials, it turned out that in addition to the antiallergic effect, Donormil provides a fairly effective sleeping pill. In addition, it significantly exceeds the antihistamine. Therefore, Donormil was classified as a sleeping pill.
Donormil is produced in the form of effervescent tablets and coated tablets by the French pharmaceutical concern Bristol-Myers Squibb. The main active ingredient of the drug is doxylamine succinate . The drug shortens the period of time required to fall asleep, but does not affect the sleep phases. Donormil lasts up to eight hours without waking up at night.
When taken orally, Donormil is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is maximally concentrated in the blood after three hours. Donormil is metabolized by the liver and excreted by the kidneys and partially by the intestines after 20 hours.
Analogs
Medicines based on doxylamine succinate are considered synonymous with Donormil, but not similar. Sedatives that have other active ingredients as active ingredients that, when used, have a blocking effect on the sensitivity of brain cells to histamine, are analogues of Donormil. These include:
- Alluna;
- Tavegil;
- Reslip;
- Valdispert;
- Sondox;
- Bellaspon;
- Dormiplant;
- herbal mixture Phytosedan.
Release form of the drug
There are two release forms of Donormil:
- the drug is in white rectangular tablets with notches on both sides, with an amount of active ingredient of 15 mg, 15 and 30 pieces each;
- the drug is in the form of effervescent soluble tablets with a flat cylindrical shape with a notch on one side, a tube with ten tablets.
Storage conditions for the drug: in a dark, inaccessible place with a temperature not exceeding 25C°. Regular tablets are stored for 5 years, effervescent tablets for 4 years.
Indications for use by doctors
Recommendations
The main indications for the drug are the treatment of sleep disorders
Insomnia most often occurs with cervical osteochondrosis, especially when the disease occurs together with other diseases. For example, people suffering from VSD with cervical osteochondrosis become victims of insomnia.
Sleep is also disturbed during depression due to osteochondrosis. It is in such cases that doctors prescribe sedatives; Donormil is a priority on the list of these medications, but they prescribe it only if it is not contraindicated for the patient.
You can see a list and review of sedatives in this article.
The main indication of the drug Donormil is the treatment of sleep disorders of various origins. Insomnia can manifest itself in different ways: a person cannot fall asleep for a long time, sleep is interrupted by frequent awakenings, or there is no way to fall asleep at all.
A healthy person's sleep can be disturbed due to simple poor health or anxiety. Often this is facilitated by a labile psyche. In all these cases, the sedative sleeping pill Donormil is indicated.
Doctors can prescribe the drug to treat allergies, because in addition to its hypnotic effect, it also has antiallergic properties. Donormil is indicated for the treatment of colds, severe cough and runny nose.
Contraindications
The sleeping pill has several contraindications. Among the most common contraindications is a tendency to allergic reactions specifically to the components of Donormil.
It is forbidden to take Donormil during pregnancy and lactation.
Only as prescribed by a doctor, in special cases, Donormil can be used to treat insomnia in people suffering from kidney and liver failure.
Donormil is not prescribed to pediatric patients. Donormil is approved for the treatment of sleep disorders only after 15 years.
Donormil is contraindicated for people suffering from diseases of the biliary tract. If a man has diseases of the prostate gland and urethra, Donormil is also contraindicated.
Contraindications
The drug Donormil has contraindications:

- angle-closure glaucoma;
- lack of lactase;
- congenital galactosemia;
- diseases of the pancreas and urethra, accompanied by a disorder of urine outflow;
- glucose-galactose malabsorption;
- lactation period;
- children under 15 years of age.
Carefully:
- liver and kidney failure (probably increased T1/2);
- with a history of apnea, since the properties of doxylamine succinate complicate sleep apnea syndrome (in sleep, unexpected cessation of breathing is possible);
- persons over 65 years of age - after taking sleeping pills, when waking up at night, an increase in T1/2 or a danger of falling is possible (the cause of which is dizziness and slow reactions).
Side effects
The manufacturer of Donormil warns patients in the instructions that uncontrolled use and overdose of Donormil and other drugs for insomnia can be fatal.
Despite the fact that Donormil can be dispensed without a prescription and is considered one of the drugs that does not pose a threat to the patient’s health, it should be remembered that it has side effects.
Donormil has a hypnotic and sedative effect, and therefore has a depressing and inhibitory effect on the central nervous system.
Before taking Donormil, you should definitely consult with your doctor.
The danger of sleeping pills (and Donormil) lies in the fact that their main blocking substance acts for quite a long time.
After uncontrolled use, a person may experience constant drowsiness throughout the day. The person becomes inhibited.

It is prohibited to take Donormil with alcoholic beverages and alcohol-containing medications.
Alcohol increases the effect of sleeping pills several times, and in combination with Donormil, drug dependence can develop.
Help with overdose
If someone near you has taken too many pills and is experiencing side effects from the drug, first ask what they have been taking. The maximum dosage of Donormil without mixing with other drugs differs from the dosage when mixed with alcohol and tranquilizers.
If a person took only Donormil, the likelihood of death is much lower. In any case, be sure to call a team of doctors. It doesn’t matter which pills caused the poisoning. In any case, it is necessary that the victim’s intestines are freed from tablets that have not yet been processed. To do this, induce vomiting several times.
A person who has received an overdose of Donormil has a sharp rise in temperature and uses more liquid than usual. The risk of dehydration is high, so the victim should be given regular water to drink periodically. But do not let him drink too much water, otherwise the body will not cope, and in addition to an overdose, doctors will struggle with excess water in the body.
It is advisable to give a person 50 g of activated carbon. In severe cases of overdose and inability to breathe, artificial ventilation is necessary.
