Vishnevsky ointment - what is it used for?

How it works

The drug has a yellowish or brownish color, a specific odor and a not very dense structure.

Getting rid of diseases with Vishnevsky ointment occurs because it includes effective ingredients:

  1. Birch tar. Has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. In its pure form it has an irritating effect. Therefore, as part of other components it provides invaluable assistance.
  2. Xeroform (or bismuth tribromophenolate). It has drying, astringent and disinfecting properties. Regenerates and accelerates the healing process.
  3. Aerosil (or colloidal silicon dioxide). Has a regenerating and adsorbing effect.
  4. Castor oil. Has softening properties. As part of the drug it is the base for other components.

The product is intended only for external use, in the form of bandages, tampons, compresses.

Compound

The drug is also known as balsamic liniment.

The composition is developed on the basis of birch tar , castor oil and xeroform .

The ointment is produced in small dark glass jars or packaged in tubes.

What does Vishnevsky ointment help with?

The ointment has a wide range of uses. In the official instructions, the indications for use are: bedsores, thrombophlebitis, purulent wounds, ulcers, erysipelas, burns, lymphadenitis, skin abscess, sepsis, frostbite, postpartum sutures, cephalosporosis. The medicine has found its use in surgery, gynecology and dermatology.

Application in gynecology

Some doctors prefer to use more modern drugs. But some of them may have a list of contraindications. Liniment has gentle properties and is safe. Its effectiveness in gynecology is undeniable and many are inclined to favor this remedy.

Recommended for use by gynecologists for the following diseases:

  • inflammation in the ovaries and urinary organs;
  • adhesions and obstruction of the fallopian tubes;
  • uterine infertility;
  • cervical erosion;
  • candidiasis;
  • endometriosis;
  • purulent inflammation.

For treatment, tampons are used, which can be prepared at home.

How to make tampons in the vagina

You can use store-bought tampons. To do this, you need to choose small ones, the absorption of which is 1 - 2 drops. It is better to take it without an applicator so that it is convenient to apply the product. Or make it yourself from bandages and cotton wool. To do this, you need to fold a piece of bandage so that all the edges are inside. Then place a cotton ball in the middle. We twist it so that the cotton wool does not fall out. The cotton wool and bandage must be sterile. Don't forget to attach a rope for easy removal.

Apply 10–15 grams of cream to a tampon and insert it at night, just before bed. The course of treatment can be agreed upon with your doctor. On average it is 2 weeks.

When breastfeeding

The instructions indicate that there are no contraindications during lactation or pregnancy. Vishnevsky can be used in consultation with a doctor. When breastfeeding, personal intolerance to the drug must be taken into account.

Many medications are contraindicated during feeding. So liniment may well be suitable.

For acne on the face

This remedy is used for inflamed purulent rashes on the face. Due to the properties of castor oil, the skin softens. Then the tar irritates the inflamed purulent rashes on the face. By this, the tar, as it were, draws pus out of the pores. Well, then the xeroform disinfects and dries the wound. And thanks to the adsorbing properties of aerosil, the water balance on the skin is maintained and does not allow its structure to be distorted.

For sinusitis

Sinusitis is another disease for which Vishnevsky ointment helps. Before starting treatment, you should consult with an otolaryngologist. Some people use cotton swabs soaked in medicine and insert them into the nasal passages. But this medicine does not come in its pure form, but as part of the composition of a folk drug. It is very common and consists of the following ingredients: aloe juice, honey, cyclomen root, onion juice, liniment. Everything is mixed in equal quantities and poured into the nose for half an hour. You should first rinse your nose with saline or saline.

For mastitis

Mastitis is a fairly serious disease of the breast. With this problem, you should definitely go to a doctor - a mammologist. Only he can prescribe the necessary medications and the necessary set of procedures. Treatment should begin at the first symptoms. Compresses from this remedy will be useful as a supplement to speed up recovery.

The remedy will be useful when inflammatory processes occur in the chest and in the postoperative period. It will prevent pus from accumulating.

For burns

This product works great on burns. It is suitable for any severity of burn and nature of origin. The main caveat is that it should not be applied to a fresh burn. This will further intensify the wound. Treatment with this medicine should begin already at the stage of wound healing. At this stage, the medication will already begin to exhibit its disinfecting properties. Inflammatory processes will begin to subside and the wound healing process will accelerate. And since this medication also has adsorbing effects, unnecessary liquid will be absorbed.

For boils

The drug acts on boils, the same as in the case of acne. The medication should be used at all stages of boil modification. Thanks to the irritating effects, the process of maturation of the rod is stimulated. Helps the wound open. The medicine then pulls out the rod. Afterwards it helps to tighten and heal the wound.

A gauze bandage soaked in this agent is applied to the inflamed area where the boil ripens. Cover the top with adhesive tape. The bandages should be changed periodically. There should always be medicine on the sore spot.

With inflammation of the lymph nodes

In case of inflammation, you should consult a therapist. He will conduct a diagnosis and identify the cause of this disease. If the inflammation is of a cold nature, he will prescribe appropriate treatment.

Inflammation of the lymph nodes is already a consequence of an existing disease in the body. The therapist will refer you to the right doctor. He, in turn, will prescribe medication. And this cream can already be used after the true causes of the disease have been established. Especially if inflammation occurs with purulent discharge. This medication will cope with them perfectly. To do this, apply bandages with medicine.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

In the annotation, the manufacturer does not indicate the negative impact of liniment on the body of a pregnant woman due to the lack of data on the study of this category of patients.

Therefore, before prescribing, the benefits of the drug and possible risks to the health of the expectant mother and fetus are correlated.

If the ointment is prescribed during lactation, you should avoid breastfeeding during treatment.

Analogs

Balsamic remedy has analogues. But they have other constituent components. Some of these include antibiotics.

Here are some of them:

  • Ichthyol. Contains medical petroleum jelly and ichthyol;
  • levomekol. Composition: chemical substance - chloramphenicol and methyluracil;
  • Shostakovsky balm. Active ingredient: polyvinox;
  • dermatol paste. Active ingredient: bismuth subgallate;
  • zinc paste. Composition: zinc oxide and white soft paraffin.

The spectrum of action is the same. The composition of the funds differs significantly. Getting rid of diseases with Vishnevsky ointment has a wider area.

Vishnevsky ointment or Ichthyol ointment

These two drugs have different ingredients. Both work well in problems with burns, wounds, and erysipelas. Vishnevsky has a wider scope of application. This is where all the similarities end. Frostbite, colds and skin diseases are diseases for which liniment helps. Helps well in gynecology. And Ichthyol ointment is good for the treatment of staphylococcus, streptococcus and Candida fungi.

The disadvantage of Ichthyol paste is that it has a large list of contraindications. Children can be used from 10 years of age.

Is Levomekol better?

Levomekol, like liniment, treats purulent wounds and pimples, boils, and ulcers. Levomecol should not be used during pregnancy.

Vishnevsky is better in that it contains natural components. Balsamic liniment is easily tolerated due to its lack of toxicity. Levomekol's main component is an antibiotic, which may not be suitable for everyone.

Another important difference is that balsamic Liniment is cheaper than Levomekol.

Special conditions

To increase efficiency, precautions should be taken:

  • If it gets into the eye area, rinse it thoroughly. As soon as the pain disappears, you can stop the procedure.
  • Apply only to a clean area, since the presence of dirt and germs, despite the antiseptic effect, can lead to relapse of the disease.

When used correctly, the drug does not affect the reaction rate, does not affect the functioning of the central nervous system and can be used in drivers.

Before using Vishnevsky ointment, the skin must be cleansed. The medicine is not applied to the mucous membranes. After completing the procedure, you need to wash your hands well so that the remaining ointment does not get on other areas of the skin, as well as in the eyes and mouth. If this happens, the contaminated area should be rinsed generously under water.

Due to the tar content, the patient may develop photosensitivity. To avoid negative consequences, it is not recommended to be in direct sunlight.

Reviews

Ekaterina, 28 years old. Hello, I want to tell my story. My son was born. Breastfed him. But in the third week something happened to my breasts. They were very painful and stones of different sizes formed in them. As I later found out, this is lactostasis. I was advised to put my baby to my breast more often. One breast actually returned to normal. And in the second it seemed to me that a stone the size of a walnut had settled, or maybe more. I went to pump this breast. And then the midwife told me that I needed to apply a compress on the floor for an hour in the morning and the last evening feeding of the baby. I took a plastic bag with gauze soaked in medicine on top and applied it to my chest. She wrapped herself in a towel. A week later the hematoma resolved. I didn't apply any more. Maybe my advice will be useful to some mommy;

Marina, 16 years old. You know, the acne cream helped me a lot! They were purulent and took so long and painfully to mature. And with liniment, they quickly climbed out. And the acne wounds healed quickly. Good cream, I recommend it;

Andrey, 25 years old. This remedy for sinusitis really helped me. I thought that was it, I would have to have surgery. But one doctor advised sticking flagella into the nose with medicine. But liniment is not used in its pure form, but with other medications.
