Under the same name, the pharmaceutical concern Bayer from Germany and its subsidiaries produce ointment and Relief suppositories. Instructions for use indicate that the remedy for hemorrhoids is complex. It contains substances with different effects, but with properties to prevent or resist the pathogenesis of the disease.
Please note that the causes of pathology (excess weight, low mobility, constipation, anal sex) can only be changed by the patient’s strong-willed decision and strict adherence to the doctor’s recommendations. Suppositories help restore blood circulation in hemorrhoidal cavities, prevent the formation of blood clots, and eliminate painful symptoms. The composition of Relief has no analogues. The components help counteract inflammation, bleeding, relieve pain and stimulate local immunity.
The official instructions for Relief rectal suppositories are included by the manufacturer in each package. Before use, patients should carefully read the description of the drug, its properties and contraindications. The price of the medicine is expensive; it is better to find out in advance whether it is worth spending money on it if in a particular case it is not effective enough.
Rectal suppositories are made in the shape of “torpedoes” with one sharp end for easy insertion, packaged in 6 pieces in blisters made of aluminum foil, which protects them from softening. They are white or slightly yellowish in color and have a characteristic fishy odor.
Description and composition
Relief medicinal suppositories are small in size and torpedo-shaped. The elements have a smooth surface, making them easy to insert. The suppositories are light yellow in color and have a slight fishy odor resulting from the use of shark liver oil as an active ingredient.
Relief candles contain two active ingredients:
- shark liver oil;
- Phenylephrine hydrochloride.
Medicines also contain excipients, the list of which includes:
- corn starch;
- propyl parahydroxybenzoate;
- cocoa bean butter;
- methyl paroxybenzoate.
Due to the above funds, it is possible to create a convenient form of the medicinal element.
What is Relief?
The comprehensive group of Relief products is designed for the treatment and prevention of hemorrhoids. Used externally and rectally.
The drugs in this series (suppositories, ointment) have the following therapeutic effects:
- anti-inflammatory
- antihemorrhoidal
- hemostatic
- regenerating
- softening
The natural base of Relief is, first of all, shark liver oil, corn and thyme oil, and cocoa butter.
They give hope for the safety of the drug. This composition has an effective effect on certain (obvious) symptoms of the disease. This is good, since it is possible to select the optimal treatment for different patients.
A common component in all Relief preparations is a special oil from shark liver, which promotes the healing of wounds (cracks), relieves inflammation and has become a breakthrough in the treatment of hemorrhoids. In addition to this element, the group for the complex treatment of hemorrhoids includes other medications.
These include:
- Candles (Relief - Advance and Ultra).
Main elements: solid fat and cocoa butter.
Additional:
Benzocaine. As a local anesthetic, it relieves pain, promotes the healing of perianal fissures, relieves inflammation and itching.
Hydrocortisone acetate
- Ointment (Relief)
Main elements: thyme oil, as well as corn and mineral oil.
Additional:
Phenylephrine hydrochloride - provides effective vasoconstriction, helps reduce swelling, and relieves itching. In his works, Doctor of Medical Sciences Zakharash M.P. noted the clinical effectiveness of drugs in this series in the treatment of various proctological pathologies.
The presence of any neoplasm or infectious disease in the rectal area is the main contraindication for the use of medications from the Relief group.
Pharmacological group
The drug Relief suppository belongs to the clinical and pharmacological group of drugs with anti-inflammatory, wound healing and vasoconstrictor effects for local use in proctology.
The therapeutic effect of medicinal formulations is achieved due to the components included in the product:
- Shark liver oil. Due to this component, sustainable anti-inflammatory effectiveness is achieved. The substance helps stop bleeding by accelerating the regeneration processes of damaged vessels. The component promotes rapid tissue healing.
- Phenylephrine is an alpha-adrenergic agonist that causes vasoconstriction at the site of application. When using the component, swelling in the area of inflammation is eliminated, the process of producing mucous, blood or purulent exudate is inhibited. The component exhibits antipruritic effectiveness.
Currently, there is no data on the absorption of active or auxiliary components into the systemic circulation.

Indications for use
The list of indications for the use of Relief suppositories is presented as follows:
- pathology of the rectum;
- anal itching in the rectal area;
- formation of cracks in the anal area;
- internal hemorrhoids;
- external hemorrhoids.
for adults
Medicinal suppositories are used to relieve symptoms of hemorrhoids in patients. The elements are inserted into the rectum after bowel movement.
for children
The safety of using Relief suppositories in pediatric practice has not been confirmed. Studies of the effectiveness and safety of use of the product in children under 12 years of age have not been conducted. If there are indications for use, the composition can be prescribed to adolescents.
for pregnant women and during lactation
The drug can be used during pregnancy and lactation. The active substances are not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream and do not affect the course of the processes of intrauterine development of the fetus.
Therapy regimens with suppositories and ointment Relief Pro
Relief Pro is produced in the form of suppositories and cream for rectal use. Other drugs in the Relief line are available in ointment form, for example, Relief Advance.
Suppositories are mainly prescribed for the treatment of internal hemorrhoids, ointment or cream - for existing external lesions due to hemorrhoidal disease. They can also be used in the treatment of intrarectal hemorrhoids or fissures. Any of these forms of drugs is effective and is prescribed individually by a doctor.
The course of treatment is 2 weeks. The drug is prescribed twice a day, in the form of a cream - no more than 1 g per application. In the first days at the beginning of the course of treatment, it can be taken 3 times a day. After improvement occurs, it is enough to take the drug once.
The medicine is used after defecation and careful hygiene. If a cream is prescribed, the method of its administration is similar to that for treatment with suppositories: it is applied with a finger, overcoming the resistance of the external sphincter muscle. One dose corresponds to a pea-sized amount of cream. It is squeezed onto the index finger. For a therapeutic effect on internal hemorrhoids, the applicator included in the package is screwed onto the tube and inserted into the anus. By lightly pressing the tube, a small amount corresponding to 1 dose is obtained. When injecting the cream, care must be taken not to damage the varicose veins or cause bleeding. To prevent the cream from leaking out, the patient must lie down until it is completely absorbed.
After cleansing the intestines and careful hygiene, suppositories are inserted as deep as possible into the anus. The action is performed in a lying position on the left side. You cannot hold a candle in your hand for a long time - it begins to melt. After manipulation, you must remain in the same position for 30-40 minutes so that the medicine can be absorbed and begin to act. For convenience, this is done in the morning after sleep and in the evening. The improvement lasts for 8 hours.
In case of severe inflammation and pain of hemorrhoids, therapy begins with the introduction of a cream rather than suppositories. Large nodes are lubricated with cream, carefully moving them into the lumen of the rectum.
In severe cases, some schemes include the use of cream simultaneously with suppositories. This is necessary for severe pain and bleeding. Usually the course of treatment lasts 2-3 weeks.
To prevent exacerbation of chronic hemorrhoidal disease, it is recommended to take 2-3 courses per year: 1 suppository once a day for 10-14 days. This scheme allows you to prevent inflammation and swelling of varicose veins and avoid constipation.
If the candle softens in the presence of high temperature, before use, you need to lower it, without removing it from the shell, for some time in cold water.
Contraindications
The list of contraindications for use is as follows:
- thromboembolic disease;
- decrease in granulocyte mass;

Relief candle side effects. Relief candles - instructions for use
The annotation attached to the drug provides general recommendations regarding dosage, administration, and course duration. After the examination, the doctor may change the treatment regimen taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient, but this will not affect the sequence of actions necessary to insert a rectal suppository into the anus. The optimal time to use the medicine: before bed, after waking up and each act of bowel movement.
Mode of application
If there is a need to relieve the symptoms of hemorrhoids or other diseases affecting the perianal area, it is recommended to use the following scheme for using suppositories:
- Hygiene procedures are a preparatory stage that involves bowel movements using an enema. After defecation, you need to clean the anus and the area around it by washing with water or wiping with a damp intimate tissue, then wash your hands with soap.
- Introduction, as the main stage, involves opening the shell. Next, you should lie on your side, tuck your knees to your stomach and spread your buttocks with your free hand. Place the suppository with the rounded end to the anus, push it 2-3 cm with your finger.
- The final stage of the procedure will take several minutes, during which you will have to maintain a supine position to allow the candle to dissolve.
Dosage
Rectal suppositories, like any other drug, will help relieve pain, promote wound healing and regeneration of the rectal mucosa, provided the dose is correctly selected. The positive dynamics of recovery are directly related to the regular use of the medication, and the general recommendations regarding the daily dose are 4 suppositories. The dosage of the drug and the duration of the course may be influenced by the severity of the disease, but all changes must be agreed with the attending physician.
