The drug "Relief" is a complex drug that has a positive effect on the mucous membrane of the rectum in the anus. This drug is available in the form of ointments and suppositories. This medicine treats diseases such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, eczema and anal itching. Constipation can also be prevented with the help of Relief. Ointment and suppositories are two forms of release of the drug “Relief”. Reviews have shown that both forms are quite convenient to use.
Composition and release form
The drug is available in four forms, namely “Relief” - ointment, “Relief” - suppositories, “Relief Ultra” and “Relief Advance”. Reviews have shown that all types are very similar to each other and differ slightly only in composition.
"Relief" (ointment) is applied externally and rectally. It has a yellowish color and does not contain any foreign inclusions. Rectal suppositories also have a light yellow tint. Candles are shaped like a torpedo, with a waxy surface. Both ointments and suppositories have a distant fishy odor.
Rectal ointment "Relief" is available in tubes of approximately 30 g. The kit of this drug also includes a special attachment - an applicator. The ointment contains 2.5 mg of phenylephrine hydrochloride and 30 mg of shark liver oil. In addition, this ointment has various excipients such as petrolatum, mineral oil, benzoic acid, anhydrous lanolin and lanolin alcohol, glycerol, white beeswax, paraffin, thyme oil, purified water.
Relief rectal suppositories are available in packs of 12 pieces. One suppository contains 75 mg of shark liver oil, 6.25 mg of phenylephrine hydrochloride and 2 g of cocoa butter, which is the base.
A separate type of drug - "Relief Advance" - has the form of suppositories. It differs from conventional suppositories by the addition of the substance benzocaine, which has an analgesic effect. Most often in pharmacies they ask for Relief Advance. Reviews have shown that patients with such diseases often need not only treatment, but also pain relief.
Another type of this drug is “Relief Ultra”, which is also available in suppositories. One such suppository contains 10 mg of hydrocortisone acetate, 60 mg of shark liver oil and 10 mg of zinc sulfate.
Auxiliary substances for creating suppositories are corn starch, cocoa butter, propyl parahydroxybenzoate and methyl parahydroxybenzoate.
How to use the ointment
Thus, the main purpose of Relief ointment is to relieve swelling and reduce inflammation in the area of hemorrhoids and internal tissues.
At the same time, the drug has a regenerative and analgesic effect, toning and softening problem areas.
For external open forms of hemorrhoids, the ointment is used in the form of a medical application. To do this, each package comes with a special rectal tip, with which the ointment can be applied directly inside the rectum.
The rectal tip can be used not only for external, but also for internal forms of hemorrhoids, as well as various types of inflammation of the hemorrhoids.
Before using the ointment, mandatory hygiene procedures are carried out, in particular, the rectum is washed and cleaned along with the area around the anus.
In order to relieve inflammation and make the procedure more comfortable, it is necessary to reduce the blood flow to the nodes themselves. To do this, it is recommended to take a cool bath, fixing the body in a sitting position.
Upon completion of these procedures, the perineum should be wiped dry with a clean cloth or dried with a towel. Only after this, apply a thin layer of ointment with light movements to the hemorrhoids. No need to rub or massage.
Rectal tip
After this procedure, you should give the body a little rest. To do this, you need to relax and lie on your stomach for a few minutes.
In the first stages of treatment, this procedure must be repeated up to 5-6 times a day. After positive results appear, the number of sessions can be gradually reduced, bringing it to twice a day.
The best time for this is after the morning and evening colon cleansing. The course of treatment is individual for each person, but on average it lasts from two weeks to 20 days.
If after this time the symptoms of hemorrhoids do not go away and there are no signs of improvement, then in such cases it is imperative to see a doctor for a more detailed examination.
Contraindications
This drug should not be used if you are hypersensitive to any component of the drug. Granulocytopenia and thromboembolic disease are also contraindications. The drug should be used with caution in case of arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, urinary retention, pregnancy and lactation. The instructions included in the package with the drug "Relief" warn about this. Reviews from patients report that this medicine is well tolerated with similar diseases; in any case, you should consult a doctor before use.
Indications for use
The ointment exhibits its properties well during the treatment of arthritis, sciatica, and radiculitis. It is regularly used to treat inflammation and soft tissue diseases, bruises and injuries.
In addition, the effectiveness of the drug for the treatment of hemorrhoids has been proven. When prescribing Relief suppositories for complex therapy of hemorrhoids, doctors also prescribe Deep Relief ointment, which helps eliminate external symptoms.
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
Deep Relief, as the instructions for use say, can only be used externally. This is a combination drug, that is, its therapeutic effect is achieved through several active components.
Thus, ibuprofen, which belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and is included in the composition, relieves pain and eliminates inflammation in the place where the gel is applied.
The action of the second component of the drug, levomenthol, is aimed at reducing pain sensitivity. This happens due to the local anesthetic effect of the substance.
The gel is well absorbed, thanks to which it penetrates to a greater depth into soft tissues.
To obtain a good therapeutic effect, the gel is used in small quantities.
How does Relief ointment work for hemorrhoids?
For the treatment of hemorrhoids, different series of the drug “Relief” are produced. They are used depending on the stage of the disease. Thus, the Relief Pro cream contains fewer chemical components and more natural ones, has a mild effect and is suitable for preventing the disease. To treat the initial stage of the disease, it is better to use the usual Relief ointment. For more advanced processes, where there is bleeding and acute pain, Relief Advance anti-hemorrhoid ointment is suitable. It contains a high concentration of medicinal substances. For bleeding hemorrhoids or painful prolapsed nodes, “Advance” gives a quick analgesic and hemostatic effect. Ointments and creams are products for external use. For internal hemorrhoids, candles of the same name are also suitable.
Internal or external hemorrhoids at a late stage cannot be cured with pharmaceuticals. In such cases, surgery is required. The sooner a patient goes to the doctor with his problem, the greater the chance that he can get by with one ointment.
Relief price, where to buy
The cost of this medicine for hemorrhoids depends on the form of the drug. Since Relief is a fairly popular medicine used for hemorrhoids, you can buy suppositories or cream in many pharmacies.
The average price of Relief ointment usually does not exceed 280 rubles per package. However, it is worth remembering that the price of Relief ointment may vary depending on the region and differ significantly (usually upward) from the average cost of the drug.
Absolutely the same can be said about rectal suppositories. In pharmacies you can find Relief candles at prices ranging from 300 rubles and above. Therefore, it is better to check with pharmacists by phone in advance how much suppositories and ointment cost.
The average price of Relief suppositories for hemorrhoids in Ukraine is 80-90 UAH.

Relief instructions for use
To apply the cream correctly, you must perform the following types of actions:
- Rinse the anus area with warm water and pat dry with a towel.
- Separate the applicator from the lid and attach it to the package of cream. Carefully insert the applicator into the rectum, pressing on the tube to squeeze out a small amount of the drug. Remove the applicator with slow movements and remain in a lying position for at least 30 minutes.
- If you have superficial hemorrhoids, squeeze out a small amount of cream and lubricate the bumps with it. It is not recommended to press or rub the cream.
- After using the drug, wash your hands thoroughly with an antibacterial agent and pour boiling water over the nozzle for introducing the cream.
Let's celebrate! Relief cream is recommended to be used three times a day for 7 days. In severe cases of hemorrhoids, the number of applications can be increased to 10. The duration of use is prescribed by a specialist individually for each patient.
Side effects
As with contraindications, rare undesirable effects from the use of Relief are caused mainly by phenylephrine.
- The heart and blood vessels may not react well to the ointment (increased blood pressure, reflex bradycardia, arrhythmia).
- The reaction from the immune system consists of skin rashes, itching, redness of the skin, swelling, and inflammation of the eyes.
Headache
- "Relief" can cause headaches, nervousness, dizziness, and sleep disturbances. Such reactions from the nervous system were recorded very rarely.
- Sometimes lanolin can act as an allergen, causing the development of dermatitis at the site of application of the ointment.
To avoid side effects when treating hemorrhoids, precautions should be taken during the course of treatment.
- People with disorders of the cardiovascular system should use Relief carefully.
- Diabetes patients should also follow this rule. Phenylephrine may increase blood glucose concentrations. Therefore, diabetics need to monitor their sugar levels when treating hemorrhoids with ointment.
- Women during pregnancy and lactation should use Relief after consultation with a doctor, who will assess all risks taking into account the patient’s health condition.
BPH
- Caution is necessary for men who have problems with the prostate gland (prostatitis, adenoma). A deterioration in the outflow of urine cannot be ruled out.
- You should be more careful when driving a car and moving machinery, since negative effects of the ointment on the nervous system have been recorded, leading to a decrease in concentration and a slower reaction to changes in the situation.
Features of use
Deep Relief is used 3-4 times a day until a pronounced therapeutic effect is achieved. A strip of gel 4-5 cm long is applied to the affected area of the body. The skin must first be washed with soap and dried. The gel is distributed in a thin layer and left until completely absorbed. The course of treatment lasts 7-10 days. Sometimes the doctor may extend treatment with Deep Relief gel up to 14 days.
Attention! After applying the product to the skin, it is not recommended to apply a bandage; the product should be well absorbed into the skin.
The gel should be applied with caution to patients suffering from chronic diseases of the kidneys, liver and heart. After rubbing the product into the skin, hands should be washed thoroughly with soap, avoiding contact of the product with the mucous membrane of the eyes.
Possible side effects
Clinical studies show that this drug is well tolerated and causes virtually no side effects. The instructions for use from the manufacturer indicate that in rare cases the following reactions may occur:
- local redness of the skin;
- small vesicular rash;
- peeling of the skin;
- eczema;
- hives.
If these symptoms appear, you must stop using the medication and immediately consult your doctor.
Combination with other drugs
When used correctly, this remedy can be included in the complex treatment of many diseases. Particular attention should be paid to drugs that provoke the development of photosensitivity. When these medications are used simultaneously, Deep Relief gel increases this side effect.
