pharmachologic effect

Hemostatic drug. Fibrinolysis inhibitor. Specifically inhibits the activation of plasminogen and its conversion to plasmin. It has a local and systemic hemostatic effect for bleeding associated with increased fibrinolysis (platelet pathology, menorrhagia).

Due to the suppression of the formation of kinins and other active peptides involved in allergic and inflammatory reactions, it has antiallergic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Experimental studies have confirmed the intrinsic analgesic activity of tranexamic acid, as well as the potentiating effect on the analgesic activity of opioid analgesics.

What analogues can replace the drug?

Tranexamic acid is not suitable for all patients, and all because each person has his own individual characteristics of the body. If you urgently need to stop the bleeding, and Tranexam is not suitable, then it can be replaced by Tranexa or Tugina, which are complete analogues.

There are a number of other drugs that act on other mechanisms, but also provide a hemostatic effect:

  • "Vikasol";
  • "Etamzilat";
  • "Dicynon";
  • "Ascorutin".

The drug "Tranexamic acid" has analogues, but in medical circles it is considered the best hemostatic agent. It helps within a few minutes after being introduced into the body. It is especially important to treat them during surgery.

TRANEXAM: DOSAGE

For generalized fibrinolysis, the drug is administered intravenously in a single dose of 15 mg/kg body weight every 6-8 hours, the injection rate is 1 ml/min.

For local fibrinolysis, the drug is administered intravenously in a single dose of 250-500 mg or orally in a dose of 1.0-1.5 g 2-3 times a day.

For prostatectomy or bladder surgery, 1 g is administered intravenously during surgery, then 1 g every 8 hours for 3 days, after which they switch to oral administration until gross hematuria disappears.

If there is a high risk of bleeding or if there is a systemic inflammatory reaction, administer intravenously at a dose of 10-11 mg/kg 20-30 minutes before the intervention.

For patients with coagulopathy, before tooth extraction, it is administered intravenously at a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight; after tooth extraction, it is prescribed orally at a dose of 25 mg/kg 3-4 times a day for 6-8 days.

For profuse uterine bleeding, it is prescribed orally at a dose of 1.0-1.5 g 3-4 times a day for 3-4 days.

For repeated nosebleeds, the drug is prescribed orally at a dose of 1 g 3 times a day for 7 days.

After the operation of conization of the cervix, it is prescribed orally at a dose of 1.5 g 3 times a day for 12-14 days.

For hereditary angioedema, 1-1.5 g is prescribed orally 2-3 times a day, constantly or intermittently, depending on the presence of prodromal symptoms.

Patients with impaired renal function require adjustment of the dosage regimen.

Tranexam: instructions for use during menstruation, contraindications

Heavy and prolonged monthly bleeding in a woman causes discomfort, worsens the quality of life, and impairs well-being. There are many drugs available to stop bleeding. One of them is tranexam; instructions for use during menstruation must be read before starting use. Despite the fact that the drug is recommended by the attending physician, it will be useful to familiarize yourself with this document.

Features of bleeding and stopping it

The menstrual cycle is individual for every woman. Many people have heavy periods and lose a lot of blood. Menorrhagia is usually accompanied by pain, blood is released with clots. The duration of discharge ranges from 7 to 12 days.

There can be many reasons for this phenomenon, ranging from the characteristics of the body to serious irregularities in the menstrual cycle. To ease the passage of critical days, some women begin to take hemostatic pills on their own. In this situation, prolonged, uncontrolled use of drugs can cause great harm.

Uncontrolled heavy menstruation can lead to catastrophic consequences. Failure to provide timely assistance can result in serious blood loss and the development of anemia. In addition, the reason may be the presence of a tumor; any delay in this case is life-threatening. Only a specialist can determine the cause of the violations, select the drug necessary for treatment, and give recommendations for use.

Characteristics and properties of the drug

To eliminate uterine bleeding, the doctor often prescribes the drug Tranexam. It is characterized as a systemic remedy and also has a local effect. The medicine is used to stop bleeding, stabilize menstruation, and reduce the volume of discharge.

For prophylactic purposes, the drug is used to reduce the risk of miscarriage in pregnant women when bleeding occurs.

The remedy Tranexam for bleeding has proven itself well. The main component is tranexamic acid. As is known, bleeding is caused by an increased content of the substance fibrinolysin, which inhibits the blood clotting process. Tranexamic acid transforms fibrinolysin into plasmin, thereby helping to stop bleeding.

The drug Tranexam has the following pharmacological effects:

  • hemostatic effect;
  • anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect;
  • inhibits bacterial growth;
  • works as an antitumor agent;
  • has an antihistamine effect.

The pharmacy chain sells the medicine in two forms - tablets and an injectable drug. The exposure time depends on the dosage form. The highest concentration of the active substance in the blood when using tablets is observed after three hours. The ampoule solution acts faster, but its use without a doctor’s prescription is unacceptable.

Reception features

In what cases and how to take Tranexam? The drug can be used as an emergency aid in emergency conditions. Tranexam is also taken as a remedy for heavy periods. The form of the drug, its dose, and frequency of administration depend on the amount of bleeding. The reason for this condition in a woman is important. This could be a hormonal disorder, a gynecological disease or an inflammatory process.

In any case, the thickened uterine mucosa bleeds, blood is released from damaged vessels. Against this background, tranexamic acid somewhat thickens the secretions, slowing down their flow. In this case, you should not achieve complete cessation of bleeding.

If the process of endometrial detachment during menstruation has begun, the discharge should completely come out.

In this regard, the drug dosage regimen is prescribed by the doctor individually. Tranex is available by prescription and should be taken strictly according to the recommendations. Most often, no more than four tablets are prescribed throughout the day, starting from the first day of menstruation. Sometimes, according to indications, the doctor may prescribe 2-4 tablets at a time. Next, the dose is reduced to one per day.

Use the medicine for no more than three menstrual cycles.

Tranexam can be used from the first weeks of pregnancy under medical supervision. It is recommended to take the drug for aching abdominal pain. It is prescribed to women with a threatened miscarriage, especially in cases of detachment of the ovum, which is often detected during an ultrasound examination.

The drug is used to stop nosebleeds in cancer. As a preventive measure, an injection of Tranexam can be given before surgery, as well as during the operation itself.

Contraindications for use

Despite the fact that the spectrum of action of the drug is wide, it has some contraindications. As for pregnant and lactating women, the drug is used as prescribed by a doctor only as a last resort, if the benefit of the drug for the woman outweighs the possible threat to the fetus.

The drug is able to pass into breast milk and also crosses the placental barrier.

The main prohibition on taking the drug is the presence of thrombosis in a woman, so Tranexam during menstruation can be replaced with another hemostatic agent. In addition, tablets should be used with caution in the following situations:

  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • thrombosis of various origins;
  • subarachnoid bleeding;
  • myocardial infarction;
  • impaired renal function;
  • presence of blood in the urine;
  • color vision disorder, development of eye diseases.

Sometimes it is important for a woman to stop her menstrual cycle. To do this, a few days before your period, take one tablet every 8 hours. This helps to delay the onset of menstrual periods by several days. You should not take the drug for more than 4 days. There is no description of this method in the instructions. You should not risk your health by knowingly causing a hormonal imbalance.

The drug is not used in parallel with other hemostatic agents; the drug cannot be combined with penicillin and tetracycline antibiotics. The injection with the intravenous solution should be done slowly. It is incompatible with blood substitutes and drugs that increase blood pressure.

Side effects

The drug is quite strong and effective, but before taking it it is recommended to visit an ophthalmologist to check your visual acuity. While taking Tranexam, a woman may experience some side effects. Thus, patients often complain of headaches, body weakness, and causeless drowsiness.

The cardiovascular system reacts with tachycardia; with rapid intravenous administration, a drop in blood pressure is observed. From the gastrointestinal tract, patients note heartburn, nausea, and decreased appetite. Sometimes vomiting or upset stool occurs. Skin rashes, itching, and irritation are possible.

When using Tranexam, you should remember that pathological bleeding needs, first of all, to eliminate the cause of its occurrence. For this reason, the drug must be used in combination with other medications that can eliminate the root cause of the disease.

How does the product work for intense menstruation?

Tranexam is used both as a therapeutic agent and as an emergency treatment for heavy periods.
The volume of discharge depends on many circumstances. Gynecological diseases can increase it: endometriosis, endometritis, polyps, various kinds of inflammatory ailments, hormonal disorders. But in all cases, blood is removed from damaged vessels of the uterine mucosa. The more there are, “thanks” to its thickening layer, the higher the volume of discharge. Tranexamic acid does not prevent the destruction of capillaries. It makes the blood thicker, which prevents it from flowing out quickly.

The doctor who prescribed it will explain how to take tranexam during heavy periods. The drug cannot be purchased without a prescription; self-administration may be dangerous. The standard method of use is as follows: drink 3-4 tablets per day at different times, starting from the first critical day. But in general, the scheme of use can be individual. And how to take tranexam during heavy periods depends on the specific case, the disease that caused the bleeding, and concomitant pathologies:

  • Someone is advised to take 2 tablets at once on the first day, and so on three times;
  • In other circumstances, it will be necessary to take 4 pieces at once, and then 1 at a time;
  • If blood viscosity has a level that corresponds to the norm, or there are problems with vision, you should use Tranexam with caution during heavy periods; the dosage in this case is reduced to 3 tablets per day.

Doctors do not recommend using the drug for more than 3 cycles in a row.

Along with reducing the amount of menstrual flow, it is possible to achieve the following effects:

  • Reducing pain in the reproductive organs;
  • Improvement of general well-being;
  • Reducing and narrowing the prevalence of the inflammatory process.

Contraindications

  • subarachnoid hemorrhage;
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

The drug should be prescribed with caution in case of thrombosis (including thrombosis of cerebral vessels, myocardial infarction, deep vein thrombophlebitis, thromboembolic syndrome) or the threat of their development, thrombohemorrhagic complications (in combination therapy with heparin and indirect anticoagulants), color disturbances vision, hematuria from the upper urinary tract (possible obstruction by a blood clot), renal failure (due to increased risk of accumulation).

Can the product be used during normal menstruation?

Menstruation is not always pleasing with its appearance, even if it arrives on time and without any particular difficulties. Sometimes it is vital to slow down their onset for a few days. Tranexam can delay menstruation for this period, but before drinking it for this purpose, it is worth understanding what such use of a serious drug could lead to. Moreover, you cannot make it a constant companion of the cycle. This is a dangerous provocation of hormonal imbalance, a negative effect on blood composition and general well-being.

Therefore, for such a strong and not safe remedy for everyone as tranexam, the instructions for use during menstruation do not contain information that it is permissible to use it to delay them.

But if you start taking pills (1 every 8 hours) a day or two before the critical ones, they will be delayed by 3-4 days. You cannot take the drug for any longer.
