Let's find out when and how to take Valocordin in order to get only the benefits of the drug for your body.

Release form and composition

Valocordin drops are a clear liquid with a distinct odor.

Valocordin contains several active components:

  1. Ethyl ether or ethyl bromoisovalerate. This substance has a sedative effect, a mild hypnotic effect, and relieves spasms;
  2. Phenobarbital - suppresses the activity of the central nervous system, which makes it possible to relieve emotional stress.

Among the auxiliary components are hop and mint oil, ethanol, purified water.

Instructions for use

"Valocordin" is a combination drug. Germany is considered the country of origin - it first appeared here before the war, but it began to be produced on an industrial scale since 1960. Despite its wide popularity, the import of the drug into a number of countries and its use are significantly limited (in the USA it is completely prohibited). This is due to the presence of phenobarbital and ethyl alcohol, which are considered psychotropic.

In Russia, for a certain period it was not allowed to freely sell the drug because it contains potent substances. However, due to the demand among a significant part of the population, this ban was lifted.

Pharmacological group and description

ATX code: N05CM. Clinical and therapeutic group: sedatives and antispasmodics. "Valocordin" has the appearance of a transparent, colorless liquid (sometimes yellowish), with a bitter taste and a pronounced mint aroma.

Effervescent tablets Pack of 10 pcs.Doxylamine succinateDissolve in 100 ml water and drink

In drops

  1. Phenobarbital. In its pure form it is a white powder with a bitter taste, but odorless. Shows hypnotic and anticonvulsant effects. Today, its use in pharmacology is limited, since the substance is included in the list of narcotic psychotropic medications.
  2. Ethyl bromoisovalerate. Found naturally in the rhizome of valerian. Relieves feelings of anxiety, panic, nervous tension, has a calming effect.

In 1 ml of solution, each of them is present in an amount of 18.4 mg. The composition also includes auxiliary components: hop and peppermint oil, ethanol 96%, purified water.

Indications for use

Valocordin drops and tablets are intended for patients who have the following conditions:

  • stress, irritability, cyclothymia;
  • psycho-emotional overexcitation;
  • dyssomnia, chronic sleep disorder (insomnia);
  • tachycardia;
  • headache;
  • autonomic disorders of the central nervous system;
  • IHD;
  • hypertension in the initial stage;
  • acute attacks of angina pectoris;
  • narrowing of the coronary vessels, causing pain in the heart area;
  • intestinal spasm.

The drug alleviates the condition if adaptation is necessary after changing time zones.

Course duration

The frequency of administration and duration are determined only by a specialist. For occasional sleep disorders, it is recommended to take the drug once. It is permissible to take 1-2 tablets or 30-50 drops at a time. Usually, this amount of medication is sufficient to stabilize the condition and relieve acute attacks.

It is important to know! If Valocordin is used as part of a course of therapy for two weeks, the dosage should be gradually reduced. Long-term use is contraindicated because it causes tolerance and a decrease in the pharmacological effect.

Contraindications

Despite the fact that Valocordin is available without a prescription, it cannot be taken by all patients without exception. There are certain conditions in which the use of the drug is contraindicated:

  • acute myocardial infarction;
  • renal or liver failure;
  • cardiogenic shock;
  • lactation;
  • age up to 14 years;
  • high sensitivity to the components of the drug.

Side effects

The combined agent does not cause negative reactions, and in general, is well tolerated by patients even with long-term use. Exceptions are rare, but the most common adverse reaction on the part of the body is an allergy - skin rashes, itching, hyperemia.

Some patients may experience:

  • dizziness;
  • state of drowsiness;
  • dry mouth;
  • stomach pain.

Long-term use of the drug increases the concentration of bromine in the body, resulting in chronic poisoning. This disorder can be determined if the patient has:

  • lethargy, apathy;
  • long-term depression;
  • lack of coordination of movements;
  • conjunctivitis;
  • rhinitis;
  • hemorrhagic diathesis.

If one or more of the above symptoms appear, or effects that are not listed in the list, you should temporarily stop using the medicine and notify your doctor.

Storage Features

"Valocordin" in any form can be easily purchased at any pharmacy, since it does not require a prescription. In this case, it is worth paying attention to the release date, since the drug can be used for 5 years from the date of release.

It should be stored in a cool, dark place at a temperature no higher than 15°C. (optimally in the refrigerator). Access to the drug should be excluded for children of any age.

Directions for use and dosage

The drug is available in the form of tablets or drops and exhibits a rapid therapeutic effect. Phenobarbital penetrates the bloodstream in a short period, since it is already absorbed in the stomach. Only a third of it is excreted unchanged in the urine. The rest is processed in the liver. The half-life of the substance takes from two to five days.

The method of administration, duration of course administration and dose are determined by the form of the drug, the nature of the pathology, age and characteristics of the patient’s body.

Drops

It is recommended to take it before meals, dripping it onto a piece of sugar, or dissolving it in a small amount of water. The maximum permissible single dose for an adult patient is 30-40 drops. If long-term treatment of cardiovascular pathologies is necessary, it is recommended to drink the medicine three times a day, 10-20 drops. For adolescents over 14 years of age, the drug is prescribed at the rate of 3-5 k. 2-3 times a day. The product should be taken for 10-14 days. If there is no improvement, it is necessary to replace it with an analogue, or adjust the dosage.

Pills

Take orally with a small amount of water. Dosage for adults – 15 or 25 mg (1 tablet) half an hour before bedtime. After this, you need to rest for at least 12 hours. For heart problems, the daily dosage is 2 pills (1 twice a day). Effervescent tablets are suitable for single use. Each is designed to be dissolved in 100 ml of water.

Overdose

Long-term use of Valocordin can be addictive. Therefore, a number of patients independently increase the amount of medication in a single dose. In this case, the development of an overdose is possible - the most dangerous condition when treated with any sedatives. The severity of symptoms depends on the severity of intoxication.

In mild to moderate cases, there is an irresistible desire to sleep and confusion. A severe form of poisoning entails:

  • changes in the depth and nature of breathing - it becomes rare and barely perceptible;
  • feeling of lack of oxygen;
  • tachycardia;
  • decreased eye and motor reflexes;
  • collapse;
  • coma.

Intoxication of the body can occur if you take the medicine only once, but in an amount exceeding 20 g. If significant changes occur in the patient’s condition, you need to perform gastric lavage and call an ambulance. They will restore breathing and blood circulation by administering plasma replacement drugs. It should be remembered that the absence of urgent measures can provoke suppression of the activity of the heart muscle and temporary cessation of breathing, which will lead to death.

Pharmacological effect

The therapeutic effect of Valocordin is due to the pharmacological properties of its components.

Phenobarbital has a vasodilating (vasodilator), sedative (calming) effect and a mild hypnotic effect. Under its influence, the excitation of the central nervous system is reduced, and optimal conditions for natural sleep are created.

Ethyl bromizovalerianate also has sedative and hypnotic effects. This component has an antispasmodic effect. Peppermint oil has reflex antispasmodic and vasodilating activity.

Interaction with other drugs

Compatibility
If you take Valocordin drops with other sedatives, the sedative effect increases. When Valocordin is compatible with tranquilizers or antipsychotic drugs, the effect of both is enhanced.

If Valocordin is used simultaneously with central nervous system stimulants, these drugs will suppress each other's effects, since they have opposite effects.

Phenobarbital has the ability to induce microsomal enzyme particles in the liver. Therefore, it is not recommended to take it together with tablets that are processed in this organ, since their content is reduced, and, therefore, the benefits are reduced. Thus, Valocordin is not combined with antibiotics, sulfa drugs and indirect anticoagulants.

Indications for use

Valocordin is prescribed for the following diseases/conditions:

  • Neuroses accompanied by anxiety, irritability and fear;
  • Functional disorders of the cardiovascular system, including cardialgia and sinus tachycardia;
  • Insomnia (difficulty falling asleep);

Valocordin for pregnant women

During pregnancy, many women are susceptible to emotional swings, worries, increased excitability, a state of fear and panic, and even depression. Therefore, they often turn to sedatives to calm down. Sometimes this is a justified decision, since the mother’s excessive worries harm the development of the child. However, Valocordin, which uses phenobarbital, is considered dangerous for the baby in the womb. Therefore, you should not use this drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

A worthy replacement would be light and non-aggressive herbal remedies: teas and decoctions of valerian, motherwort, hawthorn. But you shouldn’t get carried away with them, especially at an early stage, before the onset of the second (third) trimester, before childbirth.

With long-term use of large doses, the development of chronic bromine poisoning is possible, the manifestations of which are: depressive mood, apathy, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, hemorrhagic diathesis, impaired coordination of movements.

special instructions

Due to the phenobarbital and ethanol contained in Valocordin, the patient may be unable to respond quickly in a certain situation, for example, when driving a car or being on the street. This is especially pronounced when taken together with drinks containing alcohol.

If the drug must be prescribed during lactation, the issue of stopping breastfeeding for the duration of treatment is decided.

With long-term use of Valocordin, drug dependence may form, and bromine may accumulate in the body and poisoning may develop.

When can and cannot be used?

It is possible to use Valocordin for various disorders of the heart and blood vessels, nervous overexcitation, and insomnia. Affects heart rate and relieves nervous tension. It is ineffective for coronary heart disease and angina pectoris, as it does not eliminate the causes of the disease and only relieves the symptoms. Before taking medicine, we must not forget about serious diagnosis and treatment of the underlying disease.

Treatment with Valocordin is prohibited in the following cases:

  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • the patient's age is under 18 years;
  • allergic reactions to components.

Reviews

We have selected some people's reviews about the drug Valocordin:

  1. Oksana. There is such a drug at home, as my mother takes it periodically to calm the nervous system and get rid of depression. In spring and autumn, our body is more susceptible to stress and anxiety. It is during such periods that she uses it more often, without abusing it. The components have a relaxing, sedative effect. But it is not recommended to take Valocordin constantly.
  2. Eugene. I have never used such drugs, but after I was promoted at work, I gained more responsibility, as well as a fear of messing up somewhere. I work until late, resolve conflicts, in other words, stress on stress. My mother recommended Valocordin to me, she has been using it for a long time. The product is affordable and proven, she has been using it for a long time. I’ve been using it for a month now, dropping 20 drops into a glass of water three times a day. I began to react noticeably calmer to troubles and stopped being afraid of new problems. Improved sleep. Valocordin has a mild hypnotic effect, but does not cause drowsiness. I keep it on hand at home and at work, and I won’t stop taking it just yet.
  3. Anyuta. My job comes with a lot of responsibility and there is stress and anxiety every day. They also conduct knowledge tests twice a year. At this point, Valocordin helped me a lot, especially during the exam. I calmed down, concentrated and passed successfully without unnecessary worry and stress. I learned from the pharmacist that in August Valocordin will no longer be produced in a volume of 50 ml, only 20 ml will remain. I bought several 50 ml vials in reserve, it is more profitable, especially since the shelf life of the medicine is 5 years.
  4. Anastasia. For a long time, I have suffered from insomnia. Valocordin helps me a lot. I recently heard that at the beginning of August they seem to stop producing 50 ml bottles, leaving only 20 ml. And it’s convenient for me to take it in a large package, so I urgently buy it while I can
