You should not take antacids or drink milk half an hour before and half an hour after taking the drug, since the existing gastric juice is needed to form a protective layer.

Long-term use of bismuth compounds is not recommended due to the occurrence of encephalopathy in rare cases. If you follow the recommended dosage regimen, the risk of this side effect is very low, but it is not recommended to take other medications that contain bismuth while you are taking this drug.

Side effects

Vikalin is well tolerated by patients. Sometimes individual intolerance to the components of the product occurs. Or bowel movements become more frequent.

The following side effects are possible:

• Nausea, vomiting, pigmentation on the tongue - from the digestive system;
• hemoglobinemia – increased content of free hemoglobin in the blood;
• headache;
• swelling of the eyelids and gums;
• allergic manifestations (skin rash, urticaria, itching, anaphylactic shock, Quincke's edema).

Side effects are usually observed with long-term use or a large dose of the drug. If symptoms do not go away after reducing the dosage, you should consult your doctor to change the drug.

Contraindications and features of administration

The drug is not used:

• Children under adulthood (up to 18 years old);
• pregnant and lactating women;
• with simultaneous inflammation of the large and small intestines (enterocolitis);
• with gastritis against the background of low acidity;
• in case of severe kidney dysfunction;
• with chronic appendicitis;
• in case of individual intolerance to any of the components of the drug.
