If the child cannot hold his breath, and the throat needs to be treated, then spray the spray, for example, onto the inner surface of the child’s cheek. The drug will be mixed with saliva and, when swallowed, will reach the mucous membrane of the throat.

Types of sprays

This substance has been used to treat the throat for quite a long time. However, previously there was only such a drug as Lugol (photo). It was a solution of iodine with glycerin. It was prescribed to lubricate inflamed mucous membranes. Doing this was quite inconvenient and caused discomfort.

Lugol's solution is used to lubricate the mucosa

After some time, a dosage form such as a throat spray with iodine appeared.

Irrigation of the entire mucous membrane without causing discomfort; The smallest particles of the medicinal substance penetrate the mucous membrane faster and have a therapeutic effect; The spray is convenient to use and you can take it with you.

Pathology of the thyroid gland; Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis; Halogen intolerance.

Taking iodine sprays by such people can cause an exacerbation of the disease. The instructions for each drug always warn about this.

Yox is also available as a rinse solution. There is still Lugol's solution, which can be used as an application to the inflamed mucosa.

Yox throat spray with iodine is the most effective remedy in the treatment of sore throats and laryngitis.

The price of such sprays is low. However, if it is impossible to purchase medicine, you can do it yourself. To do this, you will need a regular alcohol solution of iodine, water and salt, preferably sea salt. It is enough to take one teaspoon each of iodine and salt; you will need 200 ml of warm water. All components are thoroughly mixed and the resulting solution is used to gargle.

Iodine throat spray is an effective remedy for treating various inflammatory diseases. It is successfully used for pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and tonsillitis. Doctors rate this drug quite highly.

Throat spray for sore throat can be used for local treatment in both adults and children. The choice of a particular drug is based on the individual preferences of the patient and the characteristics of the course of the disease.

A drugActionMethod of administration
YoxThroat spray based on iodine with the addition of allantoin. This supplement has a healing effect and promotes mucosal regeneration. Prescribed for adults and children over five years of age for irrigation of the throat mucosa. Frequency of use – 3-4 times a day.
Lugol - iodine throat spray.In addition to iodine, it contains glycerin and extracts of medicinal herbs: walnut, St. John's wort, oak bark. They help reduce inflammation and soften the mucous membrane. Prescribed for adults to irrigate the throat 5-6 times a day.

Pathology of the thyroid gland; Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis; Halogen intolerance.

To choose the most effective throat spray for sore throat, you must first establish what pathogen causes the disease and determine the characteristics of its antibiotic resistance. Individual manifestations of pathology, the patient’s age, his condition, and medical history are also taken into account.

Antibiotic sprays are more often used for purulent sore throat.

Sprays for newborns and children up to one year old

Aerosol-type sprays are not allowed to be used by children in the first year of life. If they enter the respiratory tract - larynx, trachea, bronchi - any finely dispersed medicinal suspension, in contact with the mucous membrane, can cause spasm. As a result, the air ducts narrow, up to complete blockage and the impossibility of breathing.

In exceptional cases, if there are indications for this, children under 1 year of age can use sprays with a mechanical sprayer with caution. With this method of spraying, the medicine is released in larger particles, which settle on the mucous membrane of the mouth and pharynx and do not penetrate the lower respiratory tract.

Sprays with a mechanical atomizer include:

  • Miramistin;
  • Octenisept.

How to use the product?

Various anti-putrefactive substances inhibit the reproduction and growth of microorganisms, and some are capable of destroying them. Preparations with bacteriostatics can be used to prevent relapses of chronic tonsillitis.

The preparations contain the same active substance hexetidine, which suppresses the oxidative metabolic processes of a wide range of microorganisms and has a mild anesthetic effect. No addiction was observed during treatment with these drugs.

Antiangin

A throat aerosol with chlorhexidine bigluconate inhibits growth and destroys pathogenic flora. The analgesic effect of the drug is due to the presence of tetracaine hydrochloride.

Chlorophyllipt

The product is completely natural, the main component is eucalyptus essential oil. As is known, it has pronounced antimicrobial, antimycotic, analgesic, mucolytic, and expectorant properties.

The medicinal composition is supplemented with chlorophylls, tannins, manganese, zinc, selenium, which have a beneficial effect on the irritated larynx.

Octenisept

The spray solution contains a cationic surfactant, octenidine dihydrochloride, which has an antimicrobial effect and has a detrimental effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, lipophilic viruses, and yeast-like fungi.

Aerosols based on natural substances are used at the first manifestations of mild sore throat. With complex therapy, herbal preparations help get rid of pain, dryness, itching, stop the development of the inflammatory process, promote the regeneration of the membranes of the oral cavity and their speedy recovery.

Sore throat

The spray for sore throat has a mild antimicrobial, analgesic, and enveloping properties and is available in three variants that differ in their constituent components (sage, chamomile or eucalyptus).

Aqualor

The spray is widely used for rinsing the nasal passages; it is a solution of purified sea salt or sea water and may contain antiseptic components. The drug has no contraindications or side effects and can be used to prevent nasal congestion, as well as infectious and inflammatory pathologies of the mouth and throat.

The main advantage is that it is very inexpensive.

Derinat

Throat spray made in Russia. The main component is sodium deoxyribonucleate.

Its effect is aimed at stimulating the functioning of the immune system. Thanks to this effect, the body's resistance to various infections increases and the immune response to viral and bacterial agents improves.

Derinat is effective because it also has anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antiallergic, and antioxidant effects. But this medicine is not cheap.

Kameton

Aerosol for the throat, which is known to many patients. It contains components in the form of chlorobutanol, eucalyptus oil, camphor and levomenthol. Such substances give the drug a minty flavor.

In addition to all this, the medication has an analgesic and refreshing effect. Prescribed for pharyngitis, laryngitis and tonsillitis of acute and chronic type.

Lugol

  • Well tolerated by patients.
  • Prescribed to babies from birth, women during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and elderly people.

It is prescribed in case of herpes infection, flu, colds, tonsillitis, sore throat, laryngitis. Helps prevent the development of complications.

But the cost of the medicine is quite high. Available in a spray bottle.

Novosept

Antiviral throat spray, which is produced by a Dutch company. It has no analogues with a similar composition.

It has three main properties: antiseptic, anesthetic and immunomodulatory.

Novosept is an effective throat spray that can combat viral and bacterial infections.

It has a number of limitations such as:

  • women during pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • childhood up to five ten years of age;
  • the presence of allergic reactions and bronchial asthma;
  • increased sensitivity to the components of the drug.

In the first days of illness, Novosept should be sprayed every two hours. Side effects include irritation of the mucous membrane of the throat.

Chlorophyllipt

This medication is also available in spray form. Produced in Ukraine. The main component is eucalyptus extract. Shows narrow antimicrobial activity, that is, it is capable of destroying only staphylococci.

Since the spray contains alcohol, it is not recommended for use for liver diseases, in childhood, for women during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and for patients who drive vehicles.

Strepsils Plus

An antiviral drug that contains lidocaine, dichlorobenzyl alcohol, levomenthol and mint oil. Thanks to this combination, the drug has a good antiseptic and analgesic effect.

The throat spray has a number of restrictions in the form of children under ten years of age, pregnant and lactating women.

Tantum Verde

This medicine is considered one of the best. It has an antiseptic effect, which helps prevent the development of fungal and bacterial infections.

The main component is benzydamine hydrochloride, which belongs to the group of anti-inflammatory drugs. Thanks to this property, it cures pharyngitis and tonsillitis, which are caused by staphylococci, streptococci, and fungi.

Additional properties include an analgesic effect. This property allows you to relieve pain, block the production of mediators of the inflammatory process and lower temperature levels to normal.

It has virtually no side effects, but has a number of restrictions in the form of children under three years of age, the stage of gestation and breastfeeding.

Ambassador

Yox spray is not recommended for use with other antiseptics. Before use, gargle with warm water.

  1. If the bottle with Yox has a removable applicator, you should remove it from the packaging and then put it on the sprayer, having previously removed the protective cap.
  2. Press several times until the iodine preparation begins to spray.
  3. Caution should be exercised: if the drug gets on clothing, it leaves permanent marks.
  4. When using, you need to hold the bottle only vertically.
  5. Insert the applicator tube shallowly into your mouth and point it to the left.
  6. Hold your breath.
  7. Press the spray applicator once.
  8. Point the spray wand to the right.
  9. Click once.
  10. Remove the applicator after completing the procedure and rinse with warm water.
  11. If a non-removable spray device is installed on the Yox bottle, steps 2-9 should be followed.

The spray can be sprayed as needed 2-5 times a day.

It is not recommended to use Yox for children under 8 years of age.

Such measures are based on objective grounds:

  • The drug contains alcohol;
  • When spraying, you need to hold your breath;
  • Yox spray has an increased ability to irritate the mucous membrane of the throat.

However, the product has a significant advantage that makes it preferable to other antiseptics: Yox spray does not contain antibiotics or synthetic antimicrobials.

Iodine is a natural antiseptic and, in addition, takes part in metabolic processes.

Thus, there is no harm from Yox - provided that the child does not have an overactive thyroid gland.

What contraindications does Yox have?

Each medicine has contraindications, ranging from hypersensitivity to the drug and ending with certain diseases. Indications for refusing to use Yox are thyroid disorders, heart failure, radioactive iodine intake, dermatitis herpetiformis, allergy to any of the components of the drug. Yox should not be used as a medicine by children under 6 (8) years of age.

When rinsing or irrigating the mouth, it is not advisable to swallow Yox. This is a drug for external use. It should be explained why Yox is undesirable for thyroid diseases. Once in the patient’s body, iodine is released from the drug and, after performing its functions, can be excreted through the affected mucous membranes, with feces, saliva and sweat. And it can break down into iodides and accumulate in the thyroid gland, which negatively affects the functioning of this gland, especially if problems with it already exist.

Indications for use of the spray

Yox is a widely used combination medication, and Yox spray instructions for use contain instructions that it is a throat preparation with iodine that has an antiseptic effect and has a pronounced antibactericidal and antimicrobial effect.

Yox is used for diseases of the mouth and throat, as well as in ENT practice. Produced in the form of a spray and solution.

The effectiveness of the drug is determined by the bactericidal properties inherent in iodine:

  1. When Yox comes into contact with the mucous membranes of the mouth or throat, iodine is released from the povidone-iodine compound.
  2. By interacting with microbial proteins, iodine causes them to coagulate, which leads to the death of microorganisms.
  3. The substance destroys bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa.
  4. Microorganisms that cause respiratory infections are not able to develop resistance to the substance.

Another active ingredient of Yox - allantoin - stimulates regenerative processes, ending up in the mucous membrane.

According to the instructions for use, Yox is indicated for:

  • Sore throat (in combination with other medications);
  • Pharyngitis;
  • Infectious processes that affect the oral mucosa;
  • In the postoperative period;
  • For preoperative treatment.

Due to its irritating effect, the product effectively eliminates sore throat.

The instructions for use contain instructions that the product can also be used in the treatment of superinfections that occur during therapy with antibiotics, antitumor, antiviral, and antifungal drugs.

Yox spray should not be used for the following contraindications:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • Increased thyroid function;
  • Heart failure;
  • Children under 6 years old;
  • Herpes form of dermatitis.

In case of laryngitis, only a doctor can prescribe the remedy.

The medication should be used very carefully in patients with renal failure.

When irrigating and rinsing, it is better not to swallow Yox.

Avoid contact of the spray with mucous membranes, and if the product gets into your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with cold water.

Yox tends to stain the mucous membranes of the mouth and teeth, and stains can be removed with ethanol.

The drug is not recommended for use together with other antiseptics. Before use, gargle with warm water.

How to take Yox spray:

  1. If your bottle of Yox is equipped with a removable applicator, then it should be removed from the packaging and placed on the sprayer, having first removed the protective cap from it.
  2. Press several times until the product begins to spray.
  3. Be careful: if it gets on clothing, the drug leaves permanent marks.
  4. When using, the bottle should only be held vertically.
  5. Insert the spray tube of the applicator shallowly into your mouth and point to the left.
  6. Hold your breath.
  7. Press the spray applicator once.
  8. Point the spray wand to the right.
  9. Press once.
  10. After completing the procedure, remove the applicator and rinse it with warm water.
  11. If your Yox bottle comes with a non-removable spray device, follow steps 2-9 above.

You can spray the spray as needed from 2 to 5 times a day.

  • When spraying, you must hold your breath;
  • the drug contains alcohol;
  • The spray has a high ability to irritate the throat mucosa.

Yox is an aggressive substance: its use in children is difficult.

Yox does not contain synthetic antimicrobials or antibiotics. Iodine is a natural aseptic agent and, in addition, is involved in metabolic processes in the body. Thus, there is no harm from Yox - provided that the child does not suffer from hyperfunction of the thyroid gland. The same cannot be said with complete confidence about sprays with a synthetic antibacterial component, even when the instructions for use indicate the safety of their use.

The effectiveness of Yox spray is determined by the bactericidal properties of iodine:

  1. When it comes into contact with the mucous membrane of the throat or mouth, iodine is gradually released from its connection with povidone.
  2. Contacting microbial proteins, iodine causes them to coagulate, which causes the death of microorganisms.
  3. Iodine destroys bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa.
  4. Microorganisms that cause respiratory infections cannot develop resistance to iodine.

Another active ingredient in the spray, allantoin, penetrates the mucous membrane and stimulates regenerative processes.

In accordance with the instructions for use, Yox spray is indicated for:

  • pharyngitis;
  • sore throat (in combination with other medications);
  • infectious processes affecting the oral mucosa;
  • for preoperative treatment;
  • in the postoperative period.

The instructions for use for the Yox spray note that this product can also be used to treat superinfections that occur during therapy with antibiotics, antiviral, antitumor, and antifungal agents.

Povidone-Iodine

Yox solution

The composition of the Yox solution includes the already known povidone-iodine, allantoin and propylene glycol.
Usually sold in 50 ml bottles. 1 ml of solution contains povidone-iodine 85 mg, allantoin 1 mg. The composition may also include levomenthol, citric acid monohydrate, sodium dihydrogen citrate, ethanol 96%, purified water. It is a transparent or translucent liquid, red-brown, with the odor of iodine. The solution is used to rinse the mouth for inflammatory and infectious diseases of the upper respiratory tract: sore throat, ARVI, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, glossitis, etc. To prepare a solution for rinsing, you need to dissolve half or one teaspoon of the solution in 100 ml of boiled warm water. Rinse no more frequently than every 4 hours. Do not swallow the solution! If an involuntary swallowing movement occurs, you can take several tablets of activated carbon (for preventive purposes). If the patient suffers from laryngitis, then Yox solution should be used for rinsing in case of urgent need. The solution is also used to wash the nasopharynx and palatine tonsils for adenoids and chronic tonsillitis.

Contraindications, period of use and interactions

Yox solution should not be used for hyperthyroidism, decompensated heart failure, or Dühring's herpetiformin dermatitis.
During pregnancy, Yox is contraindicated in any form. During lactation (breastfeeding) the drug is also prohibited. Children under 6 years of age should use other drugs as an antiseptic. A person’s allergy or sensitivity to the composition of the drug is also a reason to stop taking it. Since the composition contains alcohol, it is undesirable to use it for serious liver diseases and alcohol dependence. Yox solution for rinsing does not need to be supplemented with other antimicrobial drugs for external use. It itself is very effective. Treatment of complex diseases of the ENT organs is supplemented by the use of antibiotics. Usually 5-7 days of using the drug are enough to improve the patient’s condition or complete recovery.

Preparations with iodine

Iodine is an antiseptic that is used to treat wounds and skin surfaces, and it can be included in aerosols that are used for sore throat, tonsillitis, or sore throat.

Main indications for use:

  1. Pain and sore throat.
  2. Difficulty swallowing.
  3. Enlarged tonsils.
  4. The appearance of pain in the larynx.

Contraindications for use:

  • period of pregnancy and lactation;
  • children's age (relative);
  • hypersensitivity to the main active substance.

Iodine has a powerful antiseptic effect, is well absorbed and accumulates in the thyroid gland, and is excreted by the kidneys.

Iodine-based preparations should be used only when indicated. Since this substance successfully penetrates the placental barrier and remains in breast milk, its use is best discussed with your doctor.

Drugs in this class are considered relatively safe, but can lead to a number of unwanted side effects:

  1. Increased salivation.
  2. Headaches, dizziness.
  3. Local allergic reactions.

Side effects are most often a concern during an overdose, but can also occur with increased sensitivity to the substance due to the individual characteristics of the body. It is advisable that such an aerosol be selected by a doctor, otherwise there is a high probability of low effectiveness of therapy.

There are a number of inexpensive throat sprays that contain iodine, these include:

  • Iodovidone is not used in the treatment of children under 10 years of age; it has a number of contraindications: hypersensitivity, thyroid adenoma, hyperthyroidism, renal failure. The dosage of the drug is determined individually, the cost of the medicine is 100–150 rubles. And for coughs in children, you can try using an iodine mesh.

    It is best to consult a doctor before use

  • Yox - available in aerosol form, is not used to treat children under 8 years of age. The main contraindications for use are the presence of the following diseases and conditions: individual intolerance to the active ingredient, heart failure, some thyroid diseases, pregnancy and lactation. The cost of the product is 240 rubles. But how to gargle with soda, salt and iodine and how effective this remedy is, is indicated in the article at the link.

    The drug has properties in the form of individual intolerance, you should consult your doctor

  • Lugol in the form of a spray - used to treat children. Do not use the hair spray during pregnancy or if you are hypersensitive to iodine. Lactation is considered a relative contraindication. The drug is used up to 6 times per dose, its cost is 120 rubles. But at what age can children use Lugol and how exactly to use it is indicated here.

    The product should not be used for a long time and should be used only according to a certain scheme

Sprays for sore throat, laryngitis and sinusitis

All antiseptics discussed in this review are indicated for angina in adults and children. They are also effective for laryngitis.

Universal sprays with antibiotics for sinusitis - Kameton, Ingalipt. However, people with chronic sinusitis, as a rule, review them as ineffective remedies. In all likelihood, this is due to the fact that the bacteria have become resistant to these antiseptics. There are more convenient nasal sprays with antibiotics for sinusitis: Isofra, Polydexa.

Types of Throat Sprays

Before choosing a medication to treat your throat, you need to understand what types it comes in.

Local drugs are divided into groups as follows:

  1. antiseptic. They contain components that can destroy bacteria, fungi and viruses;
  2. antibacterial. They destroy bacterial infection;
  3. anti-inflammatory. Their effect is aimed at blocking the reaction and formation of various substances that cause an inflammatory process in the pharyngeal region;
  4. antiviral. They eliminate viruses;
  5. cleansing and moisturizing. The composition of such medicines includes sea salt and herbal extracts. Thanks to them, the amount of fluid in the affected cellular structures increases, dryness and sore throat are eliminated;
  6. combined. This group of drugs has several effects at once: antiseptic, anesthetic, anti-inflammatory;
  7. homeopathic. The composition of such products includes medicinal herbs, trace elements and metal salts.

Only a doctor should prescribe a remedy for a sore throat after examination. Homeopathic medicines cannot be used independently, as they can cause various complications if dosed incorrectly.

Adverse reactions

With prolonged local use of the drug, signs of iodism may appear, namely:

  • Yellowing of the skin.
  • Acne on the face.
  • Change in odor from the mouth.
  • Metallic taste in the mouth.
  • Increased secretion of salivary and lacrimal glands.
  • Swelling of the eyelids and larynx.

With an increased reaction to the components of Yox, an allergy such as urticaria, itching and redness of the skin may occur. Very rarely, a patient may be diagnosed with angioedema.

If any of the above symptoms occur, you must immediately stop taking the drug and consult a doctor to change the therapy.
